20 Feb Pat Garrett To Retire After 23 Years as President of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Housing Partnership
Charlotte, NC – February 20, 2013 – After a distinguished 23-year tenure as President of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Housing Partnership, Inc. (“The Housing Partnership”), in fact the only president in the organization’s history, Patricia “Pat” Garrett will be retiring from her post at the end of March.
The Housing Partnership has been a major force in creating affordable housing in the Charlotte region. Since its founding in 1987 it has financed the preservation and development of nearly 2,200 affordable housing units involving public and private investments of approximately $134 million.
Under Pat Garrett’s leadership, The Housing Partnership has led the revitalization of inner-city neighborhoods such as Greenville, Genesis Park, Druid Hills, Park at Oaklawn (formerly Fairview Homes) and Double Oaks. The organization branded its Homeownership Center of Charlotte in 2007, which has provided financial self-sufficiency education for more than 17,000 families and assisted nearly 1,800 individuals in becoming homeowners.
“Pat’s skills in building collaboration truly distinguish her, and the partnerships she has created among local, state, and federal government entities and numerous private sector organizations are exemplary,” said Eileen Stenerson, Board Chair for The Housing Partnership. “She has long recognized the favorable leveraging impact that shared common goals can have in creating high quality affordable housing in our community.”
An independent search firm is in the midst of the selection process and is working diligently with The Housing Partnership’s Board of Directors to identify a successor and assure a smooth transition for an organization that Pat Garrett helped build from the ground up.
